CATS TO STRONG FOR LAKERS

With pre-season done and dusted it was time to get into the real stuff, facing the new comers Caroline Springs, we wasted no time getting on the scoreboard thanks to Jacob Green snapping one around his body, Springs bounced back with one of their own, and we knew it wasn’t going to be a walk in the park, with great forward 50 pressure and run down tackle by Skipper Josh Bench gifted us a goal to give us an early lead, but once again Springs stuck right with us, trading blows up forward, with big man Josh Michetti providing a good target up forward but just couldn’t convert, Paul Milosev in his first game for the cats, provided some spark up forward kicking two late goals to give us a 10 point lead going into the first break.

Springs once again started strongly and dominating the inside 50 opportunity’s early in the second, but struggled to kick straight kicking 4 behinds to start the quarter, James Thompson and Johnathan O’Brien were good down back leading the way and getting us out of some danger, but Caroline Springs weren’t giving up easily booting two quick goals to find some momentum and taking the lead, but that wasn’t to be out done by Todd Finco who took a strong grab in

front of ex Albion player Blake Richards, he then went back and kicked truly, going into half time it gave us a 2 point lead.

They call the third quarter the premiership quarter and we made sure that we came out firing, early goals to Green and best on ground Sean Moyle gave us a 13-point lead early in the third, with much of the same brilliance to follow, Sloman, Wilson and Weightman were prolific in the midfield and getting the ball to our forwards, Butina got on the end of two and coach Chris O’Keefe kicked one also, we kept Caroline Springs to just 2 behinds in the third term and lead 70-39 at three quarter time.

Going into the last quarter it was definitely game on as there was a strong breeze going towards Springs goals, they had their chances to make us pay but couldn’t convert kicking 3 goals and 6 behinds, while Milosev popped for another late one aswell as Jesse Thompson, down back Danny Grantham stood up and took some crucial marks to help us to victory!

We ran out 17 point winners, Caroline Springs 8.17.65 to Albion 12.10.82

We now turn our focus to next week were we take on rivals Sunshine at home!
